A Night at Sidekicks Saloon

Last night was a cool night in Prescott Valley, but at Sidekicks Saloon, the scene was hot! Live entertainment boasted Boys of Summer, an Eagles tribute band, and opening act Jayce Peavler. Sidekicks Saloon is a wonderful and classic cross between a sports bar and saloon. When thinking of a saloon, most might think of the old timey saloon with swinging doors and cowboys leaning up against the bar while swigging whiskey. Not at Sidekicks Saloon. This place boasts its own unique style with a massive bar, plenty of tables, and a good size dance space.

Last night every seat in the house was filled and every table taken up by patrons, all on hand to enjoy a night of classic music by the Eagles. Everything about the evening was enjoyable from entry into the saloon to the live entertainment and from the friendly staff to the happy customers.

Many patrons of Sidekicks Saloon couldn’t say enough about the owners, Jim and Laura Lee Martin, saying that the owners know and care about their customers. I watched as Laura Lee moved about the bar. So many people stopped to say hello to her and often hugs were exchanged. One patron mentioned that the owners always remember their customers and several times Laura Lee was described as mother bear to her guests. One table even joked “We’re all her kids, but don’t tell her that.” When speaking with Jim later in the evening he mentioned how he wanted to present a safe and reputable place of business while offering great drinks, fun entertainment, and tasty eats. After last night, there is no doubt that they are succeeding in all those areas.

The entertainment commenced with young startup, Jayce Peavler. He took the stage with his guitar singing a variety of country music songs in a rich voice that was true to country music.

Steadily Sidekicks Saloon filled up with eager Eagles fans who settled in to enjoy the current entertainment. As Jayce wrapped his set, the Boys of Summer began to set up and the anticipation of what was to come filled the air. People moved in closer to the stage, the first chords were struck and Boys of Summer launched their first set with the ever popular “Peaceful Easy Feeling.” Before long the dance floor filled up. The members of the band boast veteran performers Jimmy Williamson (drummer/vocals), Darrel Monson (lead vocals/guitar), Chris Turbis (keyboard/guitar/vocals), Chad Quist (lead guitar/vocals), David Williams (lead guitar/vocals), and Jerry Schaeffer (bass/vocals). This talented group of musicians cranked out one Eagles classic after another including Hotel California, Witchy Woman, and many others. Song after song the dance floor remained filled and the saloon stayed busy.

Through it all, everyone on the staff at Sidekicks Saloon kept a smile on their faces and were genuinely friendly to every guest. Throughout the week Sidekicks offers a variety of entertainment or activities including Taco Tuesdays and Ladies Night on Wednesdays. Feel like playing a couple games? Sidekicks also boasts a couple pool tables and some dart boards.

Boys of Summer offered classic entertainment at a fantastic establishment. If you get the chance to catch Boys of Summer again, do it! In the meantime, whether just wanting to kick back on a weeknight with some good friends or catch a live show to celebrate a weekend night, Sidekicks Saloon is the place to go.
